Architects and planners are increasingly faced with the challenge of providing natural light to rooms “trapped” in the interior of buildings, on the one hand for their occupants’ well-being or for unique lighting aesthetics, and on the other to make cost-effective use of space. For Heliobus®, functionality goes hand in hand with aesthetics, especially in public buildings. For example, the distinctive, airy glass Lightpipes at Berlin’s Potsdamer Platz create a visual link between the urban surface and underground areas.

With Heliobus® daylight engineering, daylight always ends up in the best place for it: just where it is needed. Collection systems, mirrors, and Lightguides are our tools, but the vision of sunlit rooms is what drives us.

The Heliobus® Light Guide is designed to bring daylight through a building to areas lacking natural light. Geometrically optimised high quality flat plane mirrors are the most efficient way to reflect light to where it is required. These light guides may orient either vertically or horizontally within the building.

The light may be gathered either from the facade or the roof of the building. Guide modules lined with mirrors reflect the light accurately to where it is needed. The use of flat mirrors allow the light to be deflected from the Light Guide into the areas of choice.

As the illustration demonstrates the Light Guide may be installed through more than one storey – and distribute the light where it is required. The use of controllable baffles and louvres allows the light distribution to be managed into different areas of the property.

Light Guides can be used to bring daylight to rooms within a building lacking natural light. Designing and specifying these Light Guides requires thorough detailed planning. This design input can be provided by Heliobus.

Light Pipes are pure solar lighting system, thus function only with sunlight. Sunlight is one of the means of solar tracking mirror, called the heliostat in a hollow fiber deflected and just like with the light guide, many meters there transported to where it is needed. The systematic displacement in the desired Zones is usually by means of a glass tube, as it can also square light guides are used. Specific object designed extractors spread in connection with a special film that carried light and release it into the environment. E.g. in the absence of sunshine on cloudy days or at night artificial light can be switched on to illuminate the Light Pipe.
